Magnetic nail polish.

I ordered this magnetic nail polish a few weeks ago and had actually forgotten about it until a friend asked me how it was. So I figured I needed to try it out and let her know.

The polish is Nails Inc., and it's not an American brand. The directions were in French. So I headed to Google to figure out how to work the magnetic magic.

The directions were simple. Paint one coat and let dry (see first pic). Then paint a second coat on one nail and immediately hold the magnet in the lid of the polish over the nail. That didn't work out for me so well. The magnet is supposed to pull the metal pieces in the polish to the surface and make a cool design. But the magnet is flat and my nails are curved so I basically got a big blob of metal in the middle of my nail. After that, I started moving the magnet around to see what I could come up with in regards to design.

It was really cool to see the polish change after having the magnet about it. A couple nails came out really neat and a couple didn't. I think I could benefit with practice. Overall, I really liked the polish and the idea. It was difficult to get a picture that accurately showed what the nails looked like. So I just posted several. My apologies for the one extra blurry picture. Blogger has decided that I'm not allowed to delete it for some reason.

More dots.

Chris and I went to have some family pictures made last week and I wanted my nails to match my outfit. I was wearing a grey sweater over a white tank top so that was my inspiration.

I did a grey base with white polka dots and I love the way this turned out. I got several compliments on it, too. I love when that happens!

Grey checkerboard

I wanted to try a full checkerboard mani with a couple grey polishes I'd recently picked up. The colors are OPI Moon Over Mumbai and Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Gunmetal.

I was not a huge fan of the OPI as an all over color. It's a bit sheer for me although I haven't tried it over another shade.

I started with the OPI and Seche Vite. After that dried, I taped off all my nails as shown and painted the open corner with the Gunmetal.

I gave that a couple minutes before pulling off the tape and applying another coat of Seche Vite. Then I reapplied the tape to open the opposite corner and repeated.

I really did love this manicure even with the nail tip show through. I liked the subtlety of the greys although I wish I would have done my ring finger the opposite way. I'm a huge fan of an accent nail. I will definitely repeat this with new colors.

And a shout out to my newest follower even though Blogger isn't showing me who it is! I have a feeling I know... Check out the links I've posted of my friend's blogs as well. They are incredibly creative and talented!

Patchwork

I wanted to experiment a little more with taping so I attempted a patchwork manicure. I wanted neutral nails so I went with Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear White On, OPI French Quarter for Your Thoughts and Orly Liquid Vinyl.

I started with a base coat, two coats of white and a coat of Seche Vite.

Then I taped off individual angles and painted one section with the French Quarter for Your Thoughts followed by Seche Vite.

Once that was dry, I taped again and used the Liquid Vinyl and a final coat of Seche Vite.

I must say, I loved this manicure. I got a lot of comments and "likes" for it on Facebook. I will definitely do this one again in lots of different colors. Next time, I'll try and remember to take a picture while taping.

And let me give a shout out to my first follower! Welcome Dom!
